Overview

Sword and Psychology is one of the most popular and reliable solo builds in Project Gorgon. Sword provides excellent sustained damage through Many Cuts and burst via Finishing Blow, while Parry weakens incoming attacks and removes Rage. Psychology complements this with Psychic damage, rage suppression via Soothe, and self-healing through Pep Talk. Together, Parry and Soothe form a rage suppression strategy that prevents most monsters from ever using their dangerous Rage attacks.

This combination is beginner-friendly because both skills are available early, have straightforward rotations, and scale well into endgame. Sword Slash and Mock are zero-cost basic attacks that trigger Combat Refresh, providing steady HP, armor, and Power recovery throughout fights. The Belt of the Gladiator gives +7% to both Sword and Psychology damage, making it a strong early gear pickup. The two skills share no cooldowns and cover each other's weaknesses: Sword is your primary damage dealer while Psychology provides utility, healing, and a second damage type.

Strengths

  • Available early — Sword from Nelson Ballard in Serbule, Psychology from Helena Veilmoor in Eltibule
  • Dual damage types (Slashing + Psychic) provide good coverage — Psychic bypasses armor entirely
  • Rage suppression via Parry and Soothe prevents enemies from using their most dangerous attacks
  • Combat Refresh from basic attacks (Sword Slash, Mock) provides steady HP/armor/Power recovery
  • Built-in self-healing via Pep Talk reduces downtime
  • Excellent treasure mod options across all gear slots

Weaknesses

  • Melee range only — must close distance to deal damage
  • Limited AoE options compared to magic builds
  • Psychology power costs scale steeply at higher levels

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I switch from Sword/Psychology to something else?
Most players never need to switch — Sword/Psychology remains competitive at all levels. If you want more group utility, consider swapping Psychology for Priest or Mentalism. For pure damage in groups, Knife or Unarmed can replace Psychology.
What level should I start looking for treasure mods?
Don't worry about optimizing treasure mods until around level 50 — that's when gear quality and mod selection starts to matter. Focus on Sword Boost and Sword Flat Boost first, then optimize other slots as you progress.
Is this build good for dungeons too?
Yes, but in group dungeons you may want to adjust your ability bar. Replace Pep Talk with a more damage-focused ability if your group has a dedicated healer.
